Cardiff Bay Yacht Clubs annual event has got to be one of the most talked about events in the Bristol channel in the Angling and charter boat community. The events main sponsor is GARMIN but loads of charter boats tackle shops and local businesses support this once a year highly popular event. 
With boats from as far as Liverpool locking at cardiff Bay barrage and Penarth marina, 120 boats and 517 anglers were greeted by a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.
The barrage control did an amazing job getting the boats aswell as there normal traffic in and out of the three locks making sure the boats were all lined up at the starting line by 8am.
Once the Claxton sounded bang on 8 am the boats were of to there marks at a competitive pace. For about 20 mins the flat sea which looked like a mill pond around the Penarth pier area just erupted in boat spray Heading in all directions spread out over many miles there were reports from the off of small double figure codling being caught loads of blonde rays thornies conger bigwhiting and every angers favourite the dog fish.
Making sure the anglers got back for the last Weigh in at 6.15 pm. The locks started filling from about 4:30 onwards. Getting back to the yet again well organised weigh in the fish started to fill up on the cod rack.
The end results seen 34 anglers weigh in out of 517. The minimum size to weight in stands at 2.4kg
Below we have the top five codling of the day.
1st place on board White Water Charters skippered by Andrew Alsop was Tim Theyer from the swsa club with a cracking 7.22kg. On squid and black lug from Holton Road Angling on 4/0 sakuma manta extras.
2nd place on board White Water Charters skippered by Andrew Alsop was Simon Batey from the swsa club with a nice 7.12kg using salted lug and squid on 8/0 Tsunamy Black Mako Extra Strong.
First and second place on the same charter boat must mean that skipper Andrew Alsop made the write choice in his marks.
3rd place on-board Lady Jue skippered by rob Rennie was Dean Davies with 6.48kg.
4th place was Luke Price on private boat Jug Too Far with 6.47
5th place was Geriant Thomas on board Lady Jue skippered by Rob Rennie with a 6.46.
A huge well done to all involved a big thanks to the clubs sponsors and supporters but most of all there members.
